Vampire Rules

Vampires need rules. At least, these days. Once upon a time a vampire was a blood-sucking leech. He couldn't stand the sun, crucifixes, Holy water. His reflection couldn't be seen in a mirror. And the only way to kill him was to stab him in the heart with a stake. He turned into a bat. He slept in a coffin, made vampire brides, and had pale, pale skin. Think Bela Lugosi, Dracula, Barnabas Collins.

Nowadays, though, vampires have really come into their own. Now they're romantic heroes. They can go in the sun--if you want. They have life mates--if you want. They can turn into wolves, mist, hawks--if...well, I think you get the idea. So if you want to write a vampire romance, you've got to decide on the rules in YOUR vampire world. That's kinda fun. The hard part is remembering to make them follow those rules. For example...if they have super hearing...then why didn't they hear that guy sneaking up on them? Hmmmmm....
